| Greg Baker and Michael Everitt
met as members of the Tosco Music Party advisory committee which got them
playing music together at weekly jam sessions. It soon became clear that
their styles and talents were a good match and playing music together was
pretty effortless. So they formed the duo GB & ME (pronounced gee bee
and me) and started playing in coffee shops, civic events, songwriter
rounds and anywhere else people would let them. Their preferred style is
pretty much roadhouse country but they have been known to play tunes by
Jimmy Buffet, Bob Segar, Guy Clark, the Eagles and even Kid Rock. Oh, and
they have a few of their own too. They have played several venues and
events in the area including, Festival in the Park, ArtFest of Matthews,
The Sylvia Theater, Puckett's Farm Equipment, The Evening Muse, Freshly Brewed Coffee,
Matthews Taste and Trade, York Summerfest and many more. Their goal
is to make sure you have as much fun listening to them as they have
performing for you.
As a toddler Greg started singing along with the radio and by the 4th grade he was playing the flute. Before he graduated from High School he was playing saxophone and clarinet in ballrooms in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin with a ten-piece dance band where he also doubled as the sound guy and chief trailer loader. After college Greg concentrated on his engineering career for a few decades but added passable playability for ukulele, bass guitar and pedal steel guitar. During that time he also got interested in multitrack recording. After retirement he started a small hobby business providing audio and video services for local musicians and songwriters. He is a member of the Tosco Music Party, Inc. advisory committee and videotapes the shows for performer evaluations and the archives. He also is a past producer of a TV show on Access 21 called “The Naked Truth” which showcased local and regional performing songwriters. Greg resumed performing several years ago and played with a band called Second Wind for some time. He currently is the GB half of the duo, GB & ME where he plays bass guitar and sings mostly harmony and handles sound tech chores. In his free time, he and his wife Geri enjoy sailing their sailboat on Lake Norman. Michael
could not have come from a more different background than that of
Greg’s. Born in Atlanta and
reared in Pensacola, FL… He was bent on becoming an artist from the
second grade. Michael had
great art teachers through high school and attended Florida State
University as a Fine Arts Major. A
stint in the U.S. Navy and ten years with AT&T interrupted the pursuit
of a career in art… After leaving the corporate world, Michael created
landscape lighting and hand carved signs for South Florida’s builders.
He signed on to crew a racing team in the late seventies and the
connection between woodworking and motor-sports was born.
Since the mid eighties he has sculpted vintage racing cars for
clients world-wide. His
creations are of exotic woods and brass and pewter. Michael created
and is the Director of The Art Box Kids, a not-for-profit that provides
arts and crafts supplies to children in hospitals shelters and homeless
shelters. Music was always a part of Michael’s life.
Playing self-taught guitar and singing in church choirs and
impromptu ‘folk groups’ were early learning experiences, but he would
have no formal musical training until he and his wife, Barbara, moved to
Matthews, NC and he connected with John Tosco.
The old dog learned enough to get by as a rhythm guitarist and the
monster was unleashed. Luckily,
he met Greg who keeps him (for the most part) in check. |
